Our Summer Auctions

Summer is in full swing and the pace at Ottery Auction Rooms on the Finnimore Industrial Estate does not seem to slow up. The next General and Antique sale is on August 15th and then again on Saturday September 5th and their specialist Vintage and collectable sale on Saturday September 26th.
June and July saw a number of sales including their first specialist sale of coins and stamps. David Sumner auctioneer and valuer said the idea of this special sale was an idea based on two separate collections of stamps and coins coming to the saleroom and I handed the cataloguing to our specialist stamp and coin valuer Julian Foster who has previously worked for Phillips and other such luminaries and the results were fantastic with one Brazilian Reis making £1700. I felt reassured to have Julian on board with his specialist expertise in this field and buyers were online internationally and nationally and prices were steady and bullish in some cases, with gold and silver doing well.
The previous week was the summer Vintage and Collectables sale and again prices were strong with a Bassett Lowke model gunboat making £620. A Gentleman’s Tudor Rolex made £510 and a Shelley Queen Anne tea set decorated with sun rise pattern making £480. Brown furniture bucked the trend with a large mahogany extending dining table making £410. The surprise of the day was a pair of carnival glass vases making £300 even with one small chip.
So bring your goodies down to the saleroom for a free valuation and you never know your luck you maybe sat on a fortune.
